CIRKEWWA probably has given most of us special memories or moments, whether these be our very first dive as trainees, our first holiday dive ever, the first drop off; hunting little thunny or tuna or amberjacks, or being surrounded by hundreds of barracudas.
For me it has been many of these and I know that once I start recalling the best experience, I will surly find another best.
That is the magic of Cirkewwa!
Where do I begin?
My first experience of coming over the drop off that, 30years and 10,000 dives later still brings a smile to my face. Feeding squid to that large old moray behind the mast of the Rozi to have another younger yet as large moray between my legs. Floating on the Rozi at 22M just watching as the hunting fireworks exploded with thunny, jacks, tuna dentex, barracuda all chasing prey. Floating at 12M over the pasedonea meadows watching barracuda swim by for 10 mins and as far as the 50M viz allowed on all the compass points. Thousands of Barracuda.
The thrill of spotting three large old slipper lobsters on the arch for an Italian leading photographer.
Kneeling in 4M of water with the 40M viz brought down to around 20M due to the concentration of barracuda.
The bio phosphorescence of night dives.
The first time I saw a coronet fish as it appeared from behind a rock.
The first time I saw an octopus jumping out of the sand where it had buried itself
On a clear night, sea as smooth as oil, gin clear visibility, looking up from 6M realizing that I am looking at the starry sky.
The thrill and excitement, the anticipation, the prayer to please let me see the hundreds of large squid everybody had been seeing for a week all over Cirkewwa.
Then to see first a couple then 50 and later scores.
The magic of it all.
The magic that is Cirkewwa, that to me, more than any other dive site in Malta, keeps on and will keep on amazing me.
A magic that needs to be protected, and preserved for us and later generations.
As this MORE than any other dive site has the potential of becoming a dream of a marine sanctuary.

Cirkewwa is truly a beautiful dive site. It has it all. Underwater scenery Two lovely wrecks and an easy opportunity for the diver to witness underwater diversity from the underwater scenery to the amazing underwater life forms one can encounter. Perfect for beginners and experienced alike…I will always come back to Cirkewwa!
THE CIRKEWWA DIVE SITES ARE ALWAYS EXITING EVEN IF I GO TWICE IN THE WEEKEND.
