When in 1985, I, together with George Vella and Tony Lautier started the first Marine Conservation Society to promote the banning of spearfishing with aqualungs and the creations of marine sanctuaries, we were supported by many UK divers. Also giving us a lot of input were the MCS of the UK. One of the things they had mentioned was the efforts that were being made at St.Abbs in Scotland to make this a Voluntary Marine Reserve (VMR).

On our way to the bottom we discovered that the vis is not very good and we had to navigate with the compass. After 3 minutes only I spotted the shade of the Lady! And O Miracle! The light came from the sky and the wreck was in it full length in front of us. Beautiful in the light with a lot of colours and marine live.

CIRKEWWA probably has given most of us special memories or moments, whether these be our very first dive as trainees, our first holiday dive ever, the first drop off; hunting little thunny or tuna or amberjacks, or being surrounded by hundreds of barracudas.
For me it has been many of these and I know that once I start recalling the best experience, I will surly find another best.
That is the magic of Cirkewwa!
