A splendid weekend

The weekends diving began on Friday, we had a call from Dragan. Would we like to do a night dive at Cirkewwa? Meet at 9. A good start, lots of life including Moray eels, Octopus, Cuttlefish, Shrimps and a Spanish dancer. The first night dive Debbie and I have done since we have come to live in Malta, we were not disappointed. The dive gear was packed into the car ready for the next day

X127 Lighter – Carolita Barge a true wartime wreck in Malta

The X127 is a nice dive – a “warm water UK wreck and rummage dive” is the best description. It is a veteran of World War 1 having been designed for the Gallipoli Landings, but was sunk in World War 2. She was a water lighter serving around the harbour and was sunk when the submarine moorings off Manoel Island were bombed.

HMS Maori – a dive in the heart of Malta

The guys and gals from Scuba Works Malta suggested we go and dive on the HMS Maori, or what’s left of her. The front section lays in about 18m of water in St Elmos Bay, Valletta. Debbie and I were defiantly up for that! We had all heard there were Seahorses close to the wreck, and wanted to see if we could find these illusive and legendry creatures. Seven divers turned up on Saturday morning, Two decided to go off in search of ‘treasure’ in the shallow reef, there are lots of old coins and bits of interesting junk which has been tossed in or dropped over the years.
