Well here we all are again and nobody is in rubber! Scubaworksmalta.com first ever “Curry & Quiz Night” is under way. Some are in posh frocks, some in their usual rags and it is already running a little late…
So, just to confuse things we had our curry to start with – it was meant to be consumed partway through the proceedings. And very confusing it was as it looked like, smelt like and tasted like chile con carne!
No, it was not a trick quiz question. It was in fact chile con carne!!
The curry came out next and then the chips.
We even got nibbles to start with, which were dutifully handed around.
A hearty thanks to the wonderful culinary expertise of the resident chief cook, bottle washer (and owner) – Mark at Peppermill! Ros, his lovely better half, was doing a tidy act at the bar, keeping those Cisks and Fallingdowns coming… Their daughter was helping out too!
Then the quiz began, or should I say the cheating???
5 teams, with a few changing of team members, after the picture and song questions had been well and truly perused! The patrons at the tables outside were well and truly utilised, or quizzed if you would excuse the pun, as were mobile phones, calling/txt friends or googling on a phone with internet access etc., etc.
The prize was cash – so it was understandable that a bunch of dive instructors would be desperate to win by all available means and whatever the cost
The questions were many and varied, but, with a bit of a diving theme.
DaveW, doing a good impression of Magnus Magnusson… was asking the questions and sometimes accidentally letting people see the answers (they were on the question sheet and in different ink so kind of stood out a bit… Allegedly!!!) He had to come round to each team to read the question as it was getting a tad noisy and boisterous – some people obviously do not get out much
If you though there was some heated discussion and the volume was rising somewhat with the questions, you should have been there for the answers! Our humble quizmaster did try to say that the answer was the answer he had on his sheet of paper AND THAT IS FINAL! But…
No wonder English is such a hard language to learn!
All in all a very enjoyable evening – to be repeated by popular demand!
Well done scubaworksmalta.com for organising it all and to the owners/staff of Peppermill, Mosta Road, St Pauls’s Bay for the excellent food and drink!
PS I must get a discount now for that blatant advertising?
