HMS Stubborn – a dive not to be missed

HMS StubbornFrom  Dave W Whitlam

Just offshore!  A short boat ride out of st Paul’s bay lays the scuttled wreck of the British submarine HMS STUBBORN.

A wholly in-tacked 2nd world war relic opens up before your eyes as you descend down the line to 50+ meters.

The “Vis” is generally 20+ meters so taking in the sight of this once proud fighting goliath laying now at peace so gracefully with a slight tilt to starboard is “as good as it gets” for the  deep wreck adventurer.

Open hatchers along the wreck entice your eyes to take a look inside as you pass the length from bow to stern over the conning tower back to the now silent and still propellers. All this time you’re being watched by the many large fish and marine animals that now inhabit one of her majesties finest now at rest.

This is a dive not to be missed.

Malta diving is always worthy of comment .I have dived in the maltese waters hundreds of times and people say to me dont you get bored divingthe same sites .I can honestly say no first of all you will always find at the sites other divers who are friendly ,informative on sights and conditions .That sorted its kitting up time in the warm sun and taking the plunge.most of the shore dive are within 5 minutes to the wrecks.
The viz varies from 10 to 30 metres and more and it seems that fish life is on the increase there is life down there if you take your time and look
If you want deeper wrecks then you make enquiries on whose taking a boat out .
So there are dives for all divers whether novice or experienced .
And so when your dive is over its back out to hear the friendly chat of other divers dekit feel that warm sun on your back again and down to a local bar for a beer .
Diving in Malta is relaxing and there are always places to dive even if the wind gets up.
I often dive with my buddies in the harbour in valletta and although the viz is not so good 5 to 8 metres we always find octupus cuttlefish ,nudibranch, morays etc
I have a lot of knowledge as do my buddies at scuba works so feel free to ask any questions on how about diving in Malta
