Divers in Scubaworks Malta polo shirtsOh well – 05:50 am on Easter Sunday and somebody left the street door open so the stray cat got in to the stairwell (again)! It is now shut in and wants to get out!!

Goodwill and Peace on Earth and that entire god stuff – NOT.

Ho hum, I am now wide awake, eaten my Easter eggs, done the laundry, pricked pins into my voodoo doll… so time to go diving with Scubaworksmalta.com, your very own underwater partner…

The company truck is not back on the road yet – too much black smoke then too much white smoke or something like that (once again, today, no smoke!) – so we are using a 9 seater minivan. It is even automatic so anyone can drive it, allegedly.

It is only going to be 6 of us today – 5 divers and 1 for shore cover. 2 others are being paid to dive today and the Bulgarians let the side down. Oh well an all English Team, well, one honorary English as not allowed to be Maltese… We were nearly all wearing scubaworksmalta.com polo shirts (one was apparently in the wash). As you can see, available at least in dark navy blue (looks like black to me) and red. For diving in a drysuit, he who cannot be named, apparently wore his Easter T Shirt, well, it did mention chocolate, amongst other things…

The plan is to take the ferry across to Gozo and dive Bottle Cave at Reqqa Point. Sadly the weather did not check the forecast, so Reqqa Point was not accessible, so off to Dwejra and the Inland Sea.

Shame, the 2 Inspiration Divers could have both used their rebreathers – Bottle Cave comes out at 57m so should really be done on Mixed Gas (Trimix). Hope to get Mixed Gas certification sorted out for next time. Scubaworksmalta.com takes their diving and safety seriously. They even have a contact with their own Ambulance.

Had a nice tour around Gozo on the way to the Inland Sea – it is called the Inland Sea as it is a sea that is inland. Quite logical really. We saw the Great Wall of Gozo – not progressed very far, funding problem, apparently… and the Hydro Electric Plant – just waiting for the glaciers to melt… There is a partially flooded 80m tunnel that leads out into the deep blue of the Mediterranean Sea.

As it is a beautiful sunny day there was a fair amount of boat traffic going through the tunnel, but we all knew to stay to the left hand side of the tunnel and make a fairly quick descent over the shallows at the tunnel mouth. Then it was relax and head for the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel…

Three of us planned to go and see if there was any beer left in the fridge down at 50m, only one of us saw the fridge! Found a huge spiny lobster (crawfish), a john dory, a slipper lobster and a 5 Euro note ;-)

The other two had a more leisurely approach, but did manage to record a deepest dive to date – well done!

Then it was a quick visit to get “the best burger and chips in Gozo” – right there beside the Inland Sea. All agreed – it was indeed the “best”.

After a good enjoyable burger, a chat and some more of the usual divers banter amongst ourselves and with some of the local Instructors, a quick trip (really was for someone) to the rest rooms at the top of the hill and off to catch the ferry back to the mainland (Malta).

It being Easter Sunday we expected quite a queue but it was not too busy. Great, we timed it right again, well done the Scubaworksmalta.com travel facilitators. They even wangled a reduced rate for the vehicle on the ferry! Sadly, or not, depending on your view, there was no cacophony of vehicle horns on our arrival at Cirkewwa :-) )

Then it was sad farewells… to another days diving, then the fun of washing kit, pumping cylinders etc., ready to do it all again sometime soon. Tomorrow for some!

Thanks Scubaworksmalta.com for another glorious day out.

PS I lied about eating the Easter Eggs. I didn’t get any.
