Gozo on 4th of July – A High 5 Dive Day

Obviously it being a lovely warm and sunny Sunday in Malta, the scubaworksmalta.com team just had to go diving.

Being July 4th, we just had to make it a ‘High 5 Dive Day’, just because we are like that ;-)

The BSAC divers looked a little (more than normal) bewildered.

So with full cylinders, scrubbers packed (for the rebreather divers), wetsuits (and even a drysuit?!) we duly met up at the Cirkewwa Ferry Terminal.

Declare Cirkewwa a Marine Sanctuary – facts and efforts

In 2004 we as environmentalist, I am including all divers here, were hit by a great stroke of luck.

Why Cirkewwa ?

CIRKEWWA probably has given most of us special memories or moments, whether these be our very first dive as trainees, our first holiday dive ever, the first drop off; hunting little thunny or tuna or amberjacks, or being surrounded by hundreds of barracudas.

For me it has been many of these and I know that once I start recalling the best experience, I will surly find another best.

That is the magic of Cirkewwa!

Observations on Cirkewwa – part of the efforts to make it a Marine Sanctuary

For the past 25 years the amateur and professional Diving Community of Malta, including the 60,000 diving tourists annually, have been writing and arguing in favor of declaring this gem of Biodiversity to be protected and declared a marine sanctuary.
Since joining the EU Cirkewwa has become a defacto protected area by way of a law prohibiting all types of fishing around wrecks.
