Trigger FishBy Debbie Adams

Saturday 14th August…..woke up feeling pretty grotty, and today was the day of the Scuba works BBQ after the planned dive at Cirkawa.

Recovering from a cold and sore throat…poor me… decided to sit the dive out, Paul stayed out in sympathy or possibly hung-over!  So, enviously, we watched all the divers kitting up and coming and going while we had to wait for their return under the clear blue Mediterranean sky. It can be a hard life at times! About an hour later they re-appeared. One highlight was Dragan had apparently been attacked by a trigger fish*….he must smell nice!?! (Bit his finger).

From there it was off to the BBQ site at the beach, Bent had brought the works… huge BBQ  an umbrella for shade, table and chairs, very civilised! Dolores and Chris went for an ice hunt, Dolores looked a bit green when they came back I think Chris put his foot down on the way back! Well you can’t allow the ice to melt in a hot car, you could end up with warm beer!

So, cold drinks in a bucket of ice, and the sausages and meats barbequing.  Plenty of swimming, eating and drinking, which eventually degenerated into tipping ice over each other, who said we were adults or sensible?

Thanks Dave for suggesting it, and to all who contributed.  A great afternoon was had by all, thanks!!

*Some triggerfish species can be quite aggressive when guarding their eggs. Both the picasso (Rhinecanthus aculeatus) and titan triggerfish (Balistoides viridescens) viciously defend their nests against intruders, including scuba divers and snorkelers. Their territory extends in a cone from the nest toward the surface, so swimming upwards can put a diver further into the fishes’ territory; a horizontal swim away from the nest site is best when confronted by an angry triggerfish. Unlike the relatively small picasso triggerfish, the titan triggerfish poses a serious threat to inattentive divers due to its large size and powerful teeth.
